links for May 27th through May 31st
by 1115 at 5:30 pm on May 31st, 2007 in Bullets- Politico: Wes Clark plays field as ‘08 hopes fade - look, he’s just not running. and i’m still taking all bets.
- Eric Alterman: Who Really Supports the Troops? - unbelievable that columns like this still need to be written.
- WLWT.com: Former Marine Claims Illness From Mystery Vaccine - Reads like something out of the X-files. The government is giving soldiers deploying to Iraq either experimental vaccines or vaccines known to be of dubious quality. You get a shot, but your medical records show nothing. If you’re lucky, you don’t die.
- MSNBC: ACLU sues Boeing arm over CIA renditions - When corporations aid and abet kidnapping and torture…
- War Room: Moral relativism - This seems to be from DeLay rather than God: the earlier you commit your adultery, the better you are as a person. You also earn the moral right to stone adulterers who follow.
- The Daily Dish: Verscharfte Vernehmung - Yes, German. That’s because this post talks about how the Bush Administration’s enhanced interrogation techniques were borrowed straight from Hitler’s play book. In 1948 they were deemed to be war crimes, but of course we’ve come a long way since then.
- Fort Worth Star-Telegram: Reconnecting with the world - Op-ed by Price Floyd, director of media affairs at the State Dept till a few weeks ago. Sample quote: his job was “to reach people in the U.S. and abroad and to convince them that we should not be judged by our actions, only our words”
- Raw Story: Cheney promises US soldiers will be well-equipped for battle - When was the last time Cheney made a promise in a speech and kept it?

I’m now wishing I had made the Daily Dish story a full-fledged post.
Please do read it. Not only does it describe how Bush’s Justice Department and military are using the exact same torture techniques that were deemed to constitute war crimes in 1948, it has other lovely tidbits. For example, the Gestapo drew the line at using waterboarding.
Bush is doing things the Gestapo thought were a bit over the top.
If anyone knows any words to describe that, please help me out.
And he’s doing them because his Attorney General has certified them to be perfectly legal and (wait for it) humane!
