Not Funny At All

At Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day, George Bush declared to the families of the soldiers who have been sacrificed in Iraq and Afghanistan:

Your country thanks you, and we embrace you, and we will never forget the terrible loss you have suffered.

That was reported in all the papers and all the news programs.

Here’s what they’re not telling you, because it was promptly classified.

From below the ground arose a thousand voices in chorus: “Knock, knock!”

And President Bush went: “Who’s there?”

And they replied in bitter unison: “See? You forgot us already!”

That might be funny, if we could believe for a moment that Bush really does regard it as a terrible loss, and really never forgets that this is part of the cost of his policies.

So it’s not funny. It’s just the damned truth.
