The Comforter
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on May 24th, 2007 in Bush Man Date, Corruption, General GonzoHere’s the official Justice Department attempt to explain away the conversation Gonzales had with Goodling which is smelling to a lot of people like witness tampering:
In a statement, the Justice Department said the Gonzales meeting was an act of kindness and not intended to influence her recollections.
“The attorney general has never attempted to influence or shape the testimony or public statements of any witness in this matter, including Ms. Goodling,” the statement said. “The statements made by the attorney general during this meeting were intended only to comfort her in a very difficult period of her life as Monica described today when she said `He was being kind.’”
(For the record, the statement came from Justice Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse.)
Ah, but she also said the conversation made her uncomfortable, did she not? Funny how unerringly Gonzales has the reverse Midas touch. Everything he does or tries to do comes out wrong. Tries to comfort her. Only ends up making her uncomfortable.
Most sleazy douche-bags woulds have comforted her by putting an arm around her and copping a few feels. Gonzales, of course, would never do that. And, sensitive soul that he is, he realized right away that nothing would comfort her more than to be given the opportunity to match recollections with the Attorney General himself.
To be given the chance to pleasure the man who pleasures the President? Wow! That would be enough to make any girl light-headed and giddy. And leave her feeling warm and fuzzy for days.
Funny how Goodling didn’t react quite like that.
If you see Gonzales walking around today muttering furiously to himself, what he’s probably saying is: “I should have just copped a feel instead.”
He still ain’t gonna to cop a plea, that’s for sure.
At this point he has taken the position of the Attorney General, and he has dragged drug it through the mud as thoroughly as anyone could possibly imagine. Now, for an encore, watch while he takes off his trousers and proceeds to take a dump on it.

In token of which admiration, I have made a correction to the last paragraph of the post.
