Freeway off-ramp shooting victim clams up, isn’t helping police – San Francisco Chronicle (5/11/07):
The man riddled with bullets as he sat in his car on a San Francisco freeway off-ramp is not cooperating with investigators trying to determine who shot him, police said today.
The 22-year-old man is recovering at San Francisco General Hospital after being shot Thursday with a high-powered weapon at the bottom of the Fifth Street off-ramp from Interstate 80.

“The victim’s not being very cooperative, so there’s really nothing new right now,” Police Department spokesman Sgt. Neville Gittens said today.
I think the Stop Snitchin’ movement is about to go mainstream.

I’m guessing this fellow has decided that the chances that whoever shot him up will leave him and his family alone if he clams up are slightly better than his chances of protecting his family and himself if he co-operates. Of course if he’s right that’s particularly unfortunate.
Now the question arises, IS he in fact evaluating his odds fairly? I don’t know, but if the article is correct than pretty much anyone who wants to know is aware of which hospital he’s in.

i’ll rely on his odds calculation about as often as bill bennett. this guy got aired out by automatic weapons fire. clearly he can’t protect himself anymore than he can protect his family. stop snitchin’ has little to do with anything other than perceived toughness and a bizarre us against them where opposing gangs are aligned against authorities.
