In their quest to lure new, younger clientele, drug dealers are mixing their wares with over-the-counter pain remedies and other familiar products — even candy — and peddling them under non-threatening names.
Flavored cigarettes, colorful wrappers ignite ire USA Today (1/5/05):
Their boxes carry brand names such as Sweet Dreams, with flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and “Twista Lime.”
But these products aren’t jelly beans or breakfast cereals. They’re cigarettes, and critics say they’re designed to lure kids into lighting up.
A report released today from the American Lung Association criticizes so-called candy-flavored cigarettes, often sold in brightly colored packages.
“Caribbean chill? Mocha mint? These sound like ice creams to me, not something that kills you,” says Cassandra Welch, who wrote the association’s report. “It’s just a way to addict young people.”

These have been around for *at least* 5 years if not more. When smoking was still allowed in Boston bars, cigarette girls were handing them out for free in exchange for a photo of your license. I distinctly remember them being marketed under the Camel brand.

totally. the club i used to run had posters and an outside smoking area sponsored by camel.
i’ve been out of the drug game for a while, but flavored smack (sugar smacks) were new to me.
