Managing Motivational Inefficiency
by sarabeth at 7:38 am on April 30th, 2007 in Bush Man DateThe NYT has a follow-up story today on the Bush administration’s continuing search for a War Czar.
One startling detail emerged. The job description of the War Czar is that she
…would brief Mr. Bush every morning on Iraq and Afghanistan, then prod cabinet secretaries into carrying out White House orders.
Bush’s cabinet is populated by secretaries who won’t carry out his orders without prodding?
I’m sure that once they hire a War Czar, they have a Phase 2 plan up their sleeve for who to hire to make sure the War Czar does what he was told to do.
Don’t laugh. In an administration that’s dedicated to never firing anyone or holding them responsible for anything, that’s a real management problem. And you may have forgotten, but we elected George W. Bush president precisely for his management skills. So it’s reassuring to see that he’s totally on top of this issue.

It’s sure a good thing that he is finally going to be briefed about whats happening in Iraq.
