**Please see update here.**
I always wanted to title a post like that. And I’m not kidding, I think I have definitive proof that General Wesley Clark is not going to run for President in 2008.
I use Sneakemail addresses anytime I have to give an email to a merchant/candidate/etc, so I have the ability to delete an address if someone decides to sell their email list to a spammer. Well, I just got the following email to an address that I have only ever used to donate to/communicate with the Clark organization:
Friends,
For all of you concerned about the current administration’s domestic
policies, for those who are troubled by the war in Iraq and the low regard
in which America is held by the international community, it’s time for a
change. It’s time for a bold new vision; time for a competent, strong,
experienced, intelligent and compassionate voice in the White House. It’s
time for Senator Hillary Clinton to be our next President of the United
States! The Senator has been to northern California several times in the past weeks
and she will be coming to our area again soon. In the meantime, we are
pleased and excited to tell you that President Clinton will be here on April
15th for a fundraiser on behalf of Senator Clinton’s campaign for the
presidency. It’s a reality that all of the campaigns are faced with the enormous task of
raising so much money in order to compete in this election. The Senator has
done an extraordinary job in this respect but there is much to be done. The
accelerated primary process which includes many states early in the cycle
requires candidates to travel nationally, run advertising and build
fundraising and field operations in many states simultaneously. We are thrilled President Clinton will be here and hope you will join us!
Since Clark’s biggest obstacle to another run would be money, there’s no way he would have given his email list to the Clintons for the purposes of fundraising. I’ve been saying for months that he was going to sit this one out, and I think this is as close to proof that Clark isn’t running as there’s going to be, short of an announcement from the man himself.
…adding:
$4,600 (preferred seating)
$2,300 (preferred seating)
$1,000
…adding again because some Clarkies are upset: I am a huge Clark supporter. Financially and via an endorsement I wrote here three years ago. The email I received was to a randomly generated email address, and was only ever used for one purpose. It has never received email from any other source or been spammed even once in the 3+ years Ihave had it. What do you think are the odds of the lone non-Clark email coming from another politician? Those odds are so small as to not exist.
