Hitching Carts to Wagons

White House Backs Attorney General -WaPo (3/30/07):

“I can tell you that the president has confidence in him,” said Deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino. President Bush “believes the attorney general can overcome the challenges that are before him,” she said.

What challenges? Gonzo’s problems stem from his actions/inactions in the past. All that’s left is the challenge of convincing the respective Judiciary Committees that he should get to keep his job, and that’s more of a fantasy than a challenge. It really only was yesterday that Gonzo’s Chief of Staff Kyle Sampson said:

“I don’t think the attorney general’s statement that he was not involved in any discussions of U.S. attorney removals was accurate. I remember discussing with him this process of asking certain U.S. attorneys to resign,” Sampson said.

How long before we get a “heckuva job, Gonzo?”
