Free Market Totalitarianism

The only thing worse than a market-fetishist is a market-fetishist who touts the benefits of totalitarianism:

“Totalitarianism does work. You can see that. Pudong could never have happened in India,” said Herb Henkel, CEO of Ingersoll-Rand Co. Ltd., referring to the section of Shanghai that developed rapidly over the past decade.

“In India they’d still have been negotiating and debating it,” Henkel said.

Maybe Henkel’s fondness for totalitarianism explains why he donated $15,000 to the Republican National Committee during the last Presidential election.
