Quote Of The Day
by sarabeth at 8:00 am on January 26th, 2007 in Iraq War“I really don’t understand Senator Hagel,” said Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah.). “But playing around with resolutions when we all know we’ve got to stay and get the job done — that doesn’t make any sense. Most Republicans want us to win over there.”
Yes, we all know that, except for the 52% of Americans who “would prefer to see U.S. forces withdrawn from Iraq to avoid further casualties rather than leaving them until civil order is restored”.
Sen. Orrin Hatch—distorting reality since…birth?

Republicans better hope that Chuck Hagel runs for president. After GWB’s impending sacrificial “surge”, the election will be about the war and little else. There is exactly one Republican candidate who has been on the right side of this war since the beginning, and that is Hagel, and that makes him the only electable Republican in 2008.
Chuck is prominently featured in my most recent YouTube effort “It’s the war, stupid.” and recent blog post of the same name.

That kind of thinking is part of why the Dems lost the last 2 elections. (I know, I know, the first one was stolen and the 2nd one is the media’s fault, but the margin should have been large enough to overcome that, and I don’t believe those excuses anyway, just being pre-emptive). I misunderestimated the ignorance and stupidity of the American public in 2000 and 2004. While Hagel is certainly the most reasonable Republican in the House right now, I don’t believe for a second that at least 51% of voting Americans wouldn’t vote for someone like McCain or even better, Guiliani (never forget) for President. The Dems first have to development an A game (and they’re off to a good start) then bring it hard all the way through 2008.

sac, wtf are you talking about?
the commentor is no democrat so what does any of that have to do with 00 and 04? past that, you’re both wrong about hagel. he hasn’t been right about the war since the beginning, and he’s far from reasonable on just about every other issue. i have respect for him, as many do, but that doesn’t change history or his record. neither mccain nor guiliani will ever be president, and what that has to do with hagel or the quote is beyond me.
