Kofi On George

Not being a New York City person, I’m not sure where the grove of trees nearest to the U.N. building is located. But the one thing I’m sure you don’t find on those treetrunks is penknife graffiti saying “Kofi hearts George”.

Field Marshall Von Rumsfeld is not the only one currently in the middle of a farewell tour. In a speech at the Harry Truman presidential library in Independence, Missouri on Monday — his last major speech as U.N. Secretary-General — here’s Kofi Annan:

“More than ever today Americans, like the rest of humanity, need a functioning global system through which the world’s peoples can face global challenges together,” Annan said. “And in order to function, the system still cries out for far-sighted American leadership, in the Truman tradition.”

Annan steps down at the end of the month…

Always fun when diplomats bare their fangs, isn’t it?
