Lack Of Professional Courtesy

Seymour Hersh thinks the White House lies for a living, and he’s never been shy about saying so.

In turn, the White House thinks Seymour Hersh lies for a living, and they’re not shy about saying so either. This latest salvo was occasioned by Hersh’s outrageous allegations that a classified CIA report finds “no conclusive evidence of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program”:

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino did not respond directly to Hersh’s assertions, but said the article was another “error-filled piece” in a “series of inaccuracy-riddled articles about the Bush administration.”

“The White House is not going to dignify the work of an author who has viciously degraded our troops, and whose articles consistently rely on outright falsehoods to justify his own radical views,” she said on Monday.

The White House is clearly mad at Seymour Hersh, which is strange considering how they are in the same business. One would expect a little professional courtesy, if nothing else. Of course, the White House may just be pissed off that for his lies Hersh collects Pulitzer Prizes, whereas for their lies the White House only gets ridiculed and vilified. And handed the short end of the stick at election-time.

It would certainly be wrong – and no doubt the terrorists would win (again) – if the White House were to dignify the work of said author. But maybe the White House could condescend to flesh out their charges against said author? How, when and where did he viciously degrade our troops? Presumably knowing that is the first step towards convincing him to help us send our troops to their deaths with dignity and with honor. As our President has always done, and always stands ready to do. Whether it’s necessary or not. It’s his way of atoning for first dodging the draft, and then going AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard. Maybe even for that premature ejaculation on that aircraft carrier.
