    Few things make me happier than this picture. Of course, with all the money that we in Penn Hills gave his kids for their “education”, and tax-free at that, I’m more than a little surprised that ANYTHING can make them sad.

    I’m reminded of accounts I’ve read of children whose parents are incarcerated and the unhappy experiences they frequently encounter in visiting them: visits cancelled at the last minute, guards that treat children with taunting contempt, the importance of lying about where your parents really are, etc.

    The only corollary here is that self-worth and status are magical properties that parents magically impart to their kids. And when a parent is a loser before the world, that bankrupts any child’s rightful claim to significance. If you’re lucky, the failure of that magical transfer is only temporarily humiliating. If you’re unlucky, it’s potentially debilitating.

    We certainly don’t choose our parents—wether they are in prison or in congress,—and they’re the only parents we’re ever going to have. Santorum is a maniacal creep who deserved to lose, and thank god he did. And yet this to me is the saddest image of the elections. That her doll’s dress matches her own, as any girl would want, is sadder yet. We so helplessly rely on the the goodness and success of the powerful people in our lives.

    man, i thought just posting the photo was bad enough. but i’m glad someone brought up the strangest thing ever done by a sitting senator.
