Unspeakably Obscene

We live in truly enlightened times:

An appellate court said Maryland’s rape law is clear — no doesn’t mean no when it follows a yes and intercourse has begun.

A three-judge panel of the Court of Special Appeals Monday threw out a rape conviction saying that a trial judge in Montgomery County erred when he refused to answer the jury’s question on that very point.

The appeals court said that when the jury asked the trial judge if a woman could withdraw her consent after the start of sex, the jury should have been told she could not. The ruling said the law is not ambiguous and is a tenet of common-law.

Actually, why should sex be any different from politics? In his first term, Bush governed according to the principle that once we vote him in, he’s entitled to have his way with us for four full years. And in our unhealthy state of codependency, we returned to him in 2004 despite how abused and battered we were. And he promptly proceeded to reprise the abuse, the unnatural political acts, secure in the knowledge that once he’s in, raping the body politic will never lead to him being forced to pull out.

What’s even scarier is when something like this is brought up in conversation with men who you think to be enlightened enough to understand how fucked up something like this is. then you start to hear exactly what rights men think women have over their own bodies.
