As a matter of fact, Ayman al Zawahiri today is going to issue yet another tape that is — at least we are told — that is going to try to get people whomped up, in this case, I think about the Pope, about Darfur — because, apparently, we’re trying to save people in Darfur — and the Danish cartoons.
Reuters, 2 pm EST, September 30:
Al Qaeda deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri called President Bush a “lying failure” for saying progress had been made in the war on terrorism, according to a video posted on the Internet on Friday.
“Bush you are a lying failure and a charlatan. It has been 3 and-a-half years (since the arrests)…What happened to us? We have gained more strength and we are more insistant on martyrdom,” the Egyptian militant leader said.
And let’s face it, this administration absolutely needs those videotapes and audiotapes from al-Qaeda. If al-Qaeda did not obligingly keep handing them over to al Jazeera at regular intervals, our government would probably have to fake up a tape or two.
(Maybe it’s not such a good idea for us to be relying on the government to authenticate these tapes.)
This video was posted on the internet on Friday. Yet Tony knew about it on Wednesday?

It turns out al-Qaeda had announced on the 27th that they would be releasing something from Zawahiri:
I should have caught this, but it was out of chronological sequence in the google search I did, and I didn’t scroll all the way down.
