Since 9/11, George Bush has trusted Pakistan and welcomed Pervez Musharraf into his TWAT, clearly the deepest part of his political being. It’s interesting, though, what he can and can’t trust Pakistan with.
Even though he can, with a straight face, trust them to hunt down Osama bin Laden for us, he cannot trust them to secure their own airports and to provide acceptable airplane security:
United States has not granted permission for Pakistan to operate direct flights to American destinations due to security concerns.
Pakistan cannot start direct flights to the United States because the US has reservations about security arrangements at Pakistani airports, Parliamentary Secretary Syed Tanveer Hussain told the National Assembly on Friday.
Although Pakistan has made elaborate security arrangements at all airports, US authorities are “not satisfied” with them, he said.
