The Sayings And Doings Of President Bush

(1)
In case you were wondering why President Bush agreed to address the NAACP this year, after refusing for the last 5 years in a row, here’s what I’m hearing from my flies in the field:

When the subject came up again this year, at first the decider’s decider – that would be Karl Rove – turned it down, as usual. A few days later, while throwing darts at the constitution, as is his wont, he was suddenly struck with a blinding insight. If Bush went, he could use the occasion to try and tie concrete blocks around the credibility of people like Bob Johnson and Bruce Gordon, and then heave said credibility into the Mariana Trench. So he went. And gave it his best shot.

Here’s an utterly priceless statement from his NAACP speech:

My faith tells me that we’re all children of God, equally loved, equally cherished, equally entitled to the rights He grants us all.

I wish he had also explained what overrides his much trumpeted faith when it comes to those whom we suspect, rightly or wrongly, of being enemy combatants.

You may be wondering how President Bush spent last night, after following his historic first veto with his historic first address to the NAACP.

I don’t know what he was doing till 11 pm EDT, but shortly thereafter he was hunting high and low for his trousers. The ones that Jon Stewart surgically removed during the first five or six minutes of The Daily Show.

My field agents report that he never did find them last night. Maybe he’s still looking?
