Plan B for Iraq
by sarabeth at 6:00 am on June 29th, 2006 in Iraq WarPresident George W. Bush accused some Democrats on Wednesday of wanting to “wave the white flag of surrender” on Iraq, and vowed that American forces would stay until the mission was complete.
[…]
“We will complete the mission and I will make my judgments as to the troop levels necessary to achieve victory, not based upon political polls or focus groups, but based upon the measured judgment of our commanders on the ground,” Bush said at a fund-raiser for Republican Sen. Jim Talent of Missouri.“Make no mistake about it, there is a group in the opposition party who are willing to retreat before the mission is done,” Bush said. “They are willing to wave the white flag of surrender and if they succeed the United States will be worse off, and the world will be worse off.”
Bush vowed to “defeat the enemy,” and said the United States had a plan for victory.
“We’ve got a plan to succeed, a plan for victory, a plan that will enable a new ally in the war on terror to govern itself, sustain itself and defend itself,” he said. “The stakes are vital.”
It’s wonderful that we have a plan for victory, a plan to succeed. Do we also have a plan B, in case plan A doesn’t quite come off?
We made that mistake once already, didn’t we? When the Bush-Cheney-Rumsfeld military decided that the only post-invasion plan we needed was the one that said our soldiers would be greeted with candy and flowers. When that proved to be not exactly the case, we were stuck up the proverbial smelly creek without a paddle.
All we keep hearing from Bush is how we will complete the mission. Almost as if he has it on good authority from God. Just in case there’s some problem with your reception, George, have you had the foresight to make up a plan B also? Have you considered that if we keep going about things the way we have so far, the Iraqis may never stand up? So then we’ll never stand down. And our mission will never be complete. What then, George? Will we just be there forever? Is that what you have in mind? Is that what will make us better off, to drag it out forever?
When you say that you vow to defeat the enemy, are you promising to achieve victory before you leave office, George? Or do you mean that just as you are cutting taxes and leaving it to our children to deal with the resulting record budget deficits, you’ll keep making glorious promises about victory in Iraq till the day you leave office and then dump the whole bloody mess in the lap of the next president?
Is that your plan B, George?

Why do we honestly need a plan B. We can’t predict what will happen tomorrow.Only through flexibilty and hard work can we change and grow as a world. How are we going to overcome situations that would hurt or ruin our future as a nation and as a world ? Well the solution is simple by planting those seeds of wisdom and humanity in children . The answer is the children who otherwise would have grown up in substandard conditions where they would have to develope into some kind of animal to survive.By our troops being over in the middle east we are improving their chance for a normal life. The tropps are cleaning up bombs and building schools. They wont have to join groups like Al Qaeida if they have more options and more skills for reasoning, working, and living lawfully. They can work and thrive like the children in america to be the future leaders of their country and end the cycle. How can you say that Bush isn’t making progress? You just want to complain , because tax payers have to put out more money to make changes happen.Well wheres the flexibiltiy and the hard work? Do you want all those soldiers to come home and not try to help those kids? sure we might have a reprieve for awhile, but how long would that last? This isn’t a problem that can be mapped out or solved in one day. Their are to many variables. Blameing Bush for every little problem is silly. He does make alot of the desicions, but we as apeople elected him. This situation make take awhile to change and fix , but good things come to those who wait and work for the future instead of quick answers today.Bush bashing dosen’t solve your problems or mine. We as a people need to start caring about the world and not just ourselves. Support our troops and president by being sensitive to the fact that they are sacrificing their time and effort to protect us the best they can.

No, we can’t predict. And that’s exactly the main reason for which absolutely basic project management requires to have ‘contingency plans’ in place. To be prepared, just in case…
Correct. Now, do you think ‘war’ would be an efficient way to start implementing this solution?
I do not think is happening yet, though. They are still very busy doing the fighting…
Absolutely sure changes will happen. Problem is, almost 300 Billion dollars were already spent, with no end in sight. It is as if you (and every other citizen of this country) went to the bank and borrowed one thousand dollars each, to support the war. How much more money would be willing to borrow?
Agreed. However, out of the topics posted, which one do you consider a ‘little problem’?
They need our support, of course, but they were hired to do a job. And if ‘the best they can’ is wasteful and inefficient, that needs to be pointed out, don’t you think?
