Bush Comes Clean For A Change

Till the Haditha cover-up investigation is effectively completed, and its findings are leaked to the press by Congressmen and Senators after they have been briefed by the military, we won’t know the full details as to who first knew what and when.

But at least the White House has clarified when and how the President Bush came to be informed. This is from Tony Snow’s press briefing on the 30th:

Q When was the President first briefed about the events in Haditha?

MR. SNOW: When a Time reporter first made the call. Time began asking questions about it. He was briefed by Steve Hadley at the time and began asking questions then.

Time breaks the story, and then they go: “We better tell him now, hadn’t we?” That is so cool!

In related news, rumors are swirling in the region of my head that Time-Warner intends to launch a hostile takeover of the Directorate of National Intellligence. We have been unable to confirm whether they plan to retain John Dimitri Negroponte as Chairman of the Board.

(How come I have never seen his middle name in a single news report? Dimitri is not a good middle name for the Director of National Intelligence to have?)

Again, this Administration follows the Godfather School of Management to the letter (though I’d much rather have Robert Duvall as AG).

On a similar note, it might be interesting to see a social network analysis of how the Administration organizes and delegates. I suspect it’s not terribly different from a terrorist cell - minimal shared knowledge, with most subordinates uninformed as to the actual purpose of the tasks that have been delgated to them.
