Simplicity For The Simple

One of the nice things about living in the Bay Area is that it’s one of the few places in the country that has supported liberal talk radio at a local level. And, as you can imagine, the interplay between the hosts and the callers can get a little out of control.

Like I often do, I was listening to KGO’s Bernie Ward as I was driving home from the city tonight. Bernie was talking about the Bush administration’s economic policies when he took a call from a trucker who thought that everything was, well, just peachy. In addition, he had a surefire way to deal with the national debt, specifically when it came to all the American debt obligations owned by countries like China:

Just print more money! As the trucker said with more than a hint of self-satisfaction, “Why not? We have the presses!”

Take that, Bernie! Take that, Paul Krugman! Take that, all you liberal Chicken Littles! You just got served!

When the trucker was asked what kind of effect his plan would have on inflation, his response was even more classic—he didn’t have a problem with inflation, because it would mean that he would get a raise. Uhm…yeah.

I shut the car off before I got to hear what Bernie’s next topic was. But if it were me in front of the microphone, I would have steered the conversation toward the failures of our education system. It seemed pretty obvious.
