The War on Contraception
by matt at 6:00 am on February 28th, 2006 in Religious Right / ExtremistsHow long will it take for people to realize that the mainstream of the so-called pro-life movement is simply anti-woman?
The primary opposition to Plan B, however, has come from groups that contend that it can lead to very early abortions — though experts say it acts in the same way as regular contraceptives.
Republicans in Missouri are going all out, including conflating the “morning after pill” with RU-486, and attempting to allow pharmacists to refuse to dispense ordinary birth control pills because they think The Pill equals abortion.
No condoms. No pill. Abstinence-only education. No Plan B. No RU-486. No abortions for rape. No abortions for incest. No abortions when the mother’s health is in danger. No abortions when the mother’s life is in danger. No abortions, period.
They are trying to burn the candle at both ends, and it needs to be stopped, and quickly.
I’m hesitant to write about the same thing every day, but as long as there is news like this, I will.
I just set up a monthly donation to Planned Parenthood. I encourage you to either do the same or make a one-time gift. The other side is well-funded and armed with a seemingly endless supply of zealots who insist on imposing their beliefs on the rest of us. An anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to defend the South Dakota abortion ban.
It’s time to step up and join the fight.

“How long will it take for people to realize that the mainstream of the so-called pro-life movement is simply anti-woman?” …I’ve ben saying this for years and have said it a number of times on this site. It’s anti-woman, it’s anti-sex, it’s anti-freedom and it’s anti-child. To give birth to a child that is unwanted, unloved and ultimately uncared for in the name of “god” or religion is something I will never understand. Anti abortion folks should feel free to educate their own in a way that is comfortable for them, but to try to limit my right to a safe, legal abortion makes them the enemy. Kepp your laws off my damn body.
