3/17/03:

All the decades of deceit and cruelty have now reached an end. Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours. Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict, commenced at a time of our choosing. For their own safety, all foreign nationals — including journalists and inspectors — should leave Iraq immediately.

This is a moment of choosing for the Iraqi people.

Yes, they have to choose. And we’re just the score-keepers. So when the majority of Iraqi citizens presumably chooses peace, and asks “How the bleep do I get what I chose?”, what they get from us is Uncle Sam’s best search-me shrug?

As far as Bush is concerned, aren’t the Iraqis already supposed to have chosen? And by starting this war, didn’t we take on the responsibility of delivering? Isn’t that why we’re supposed to be fighting this damn war?

Echoing sarabeth, that’s a total non-choice that W has presented to the Iraqi people ith that statemen. The average Iraqi has no power to do anything about the chaos that their country has descended into since the invasion. Some choice.
