1115.org Version 5.0

by matt at 6:00 pm on February 19th, 2006 in General

We’re about finished with our redesign, so feel free to have a look around and let us know what you think. If anything looks broken please let us know, we’re Mac only, so PC users keep an eye out for anything that looks funny.

Making this change reminded us of the Great Redesign Bloodbath of January 2005, so whether you like it or hate it, it’s open season in the comments section.

Checks out fine on a PC. The new banner is very cool.

That sound you just heard was me putting my head through the nearest wall.

I like it. Lots of whitespace. The comment-reading machine attempted to filter me out as spam earlier today, but I suppose that it’s entitled to its opinion.

..I do kinda miss the barcodes.

    I’ll go home now.

Slick - I like the brick.

    How necessary is that bird?

    so necessary.

As an expert in such things, I’ll have to say the bird is ghey.

  9. Ken wrote:

Huh - I thought it was from New Zealand. Go figure.

    Meh.

Not as comfortable to read - too little to distinguish between posts.

Nice. The one thing I don’t get is the comments section. It’s hard to tell where one ends and the next begins, and what’s with the “1.” next to each comment.

    But overall, looks good.

I don’t dislike it but find it less readable than the old version. But I can’t look them side-by-side to figure out why.

The (1) on all the comments is an obvious issue.

I also notice the bullets aren’t lined up right (http://www.1115.org/2006/02/17/librul-media/)…the LI’s need “valign=top” I think.

I like it; however, I think the “white” background can be less “white” .. if it’s already not pure white, maybe consider making it even more off white.. just to lessen the contrast, it’s a bit hard on the eyes. like an EEEEEE or DDDDDD vs an FFFFFF .. who cares if its websafe..

Don’t like it as much as the old one, but I fear all change, so I wouldn’t listen to me.

Looks good to a PC user utilizing Firefox.

And I’ll go against the grain and let it be known that like the white. Other than that, I have no idea about the bird of which others are posting.

That bird is now dead and buried.

The site does not work with IE7.0Beta at all…FYI

  18. JimC wrote:

Also, Internet Explorer 7 running under Windows Vista does not work either, but I assume it is the same code base as the IE7beta for XP. All I see when I run this site under IE 7 is the brick banner image and the “Categories” links from the bottom. Just thought I would let you know since IE 7 will be unleashed before too long…

  19. Jason wrote:

Thanks for the update. As IE 7 isn’t a fully-realized program yet (and, as mac users, we can’t even access it) we’re not too worried about incompatibilities with it at this time—new browsers always seem to cause compatibilities that are eventually worked out…either through the final version of IE 7 or by adding code to our Wordpress installation.

if it’s not too much trouble, could you clear your cache and try it again? I’m trying to troubleshoot this now.

in some stories the bullets don’t line up with the text…like in today’s story, “if a tree falls….” the bullets don’t line up…

c, what browser are you using? mac or pc?

I can see the content now but the links at the top are not visible (home about feed)….

    sarabeth - i have a PC - running IE 6.0

That’s funny. When I use IE 6.0 on my PC, it works fine.

For some reason, Bill Gates doesn’t like you. I recommend a virtual sacrifice of a small animal. Anything except a billy-goat.

(Seriously, though, thanks for the feedback. Matt will look into it.)
