Escapism
by matt at 6:00 am on January 20th, 2006 in General
We’re taking a few days off in honor of all the new snow, so play nice.
Take a few minutes and find out where you land on the Political Compass.

I’m Economic Left/Right: -3.00, and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.38, which is interesting because the last time I took the test a few years back, I was dead center on the Economic Left/Right. Funny what a few years worth of Bush-O-Nomics will do to one’s outlook on life.
I’d like to find out where our readers (especially the ones who don’t duke it out in the comments section) are on the compass. They also have some cool graphics like this one plotting the 2004 Presidential candidates.

I regularly read this blog but haven’t commented. Your request to hear from the “silent” readers brought about a spot of motivation in me.
Cheers,

I didn’t think I would come out that far left. If there were more options for the questions – slightly agree or disagree – I think it would have been more accurate.

OOO! I know! Let’s make predictions where JimC would come out. And then, if he would indulge us, he could take the test and report back later.
How about it Jim? Help a brutha out?

Sorry screwtape…
However, I think a lot of those question were loaded or not fully representative of my views so I had to pick agree or disagree, whereas I would have picked something netrual…or a question that is not fully represtentative of the actual situations and thus does not fully express the position, for example the question about abortion, only if the mother was to be harmed does not fully qulify my position, I feel rape/incest should also be included, but to a lesser degree…meaning rape/incest victims should be counselled and given options before being allowed to have an abortion…

I agree.

What I find interesting is that while almost everyone here is on the left side of the economic left/right, all of those same people are also solidly libertarian. Nobody here is a liberal the way they are defined by right-wing pundits and media. That is not surprising, but certainly educational for jim and his ilk.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in these kind of tests though. I think my views are far more conservative than what was revealed here…I think the only thing tests like this can reveal are extremists. anything in between is jsut not going to be much use…

But again, as any quiz turning complex set of views into six digits would be, this is a little simplistic, but it certainly does provide a bit of food for thought. I was surprised I was to the North-East of most all here, but I suppose that’s what being raised in Texas will do for you…

There needed to be a few more options — not the questions so much as the responses. There should’ve been a “slightly agree/disagree” option.
However, it’s good that it didn’t include a “neutral” since too many people would pick it.

Yeah Me, The Dali Lama, Ghandi and Mandela are folks. Doesn’t suprise me. You know I wonder if they could update the test to include the slightly’s and a neither or indifferent. Most of my answers would have a response but a few would be indifferent.

Dali Lama? I guess I need a re-do. I have always modeled my socialization after an amalgam of Hunter Thompson, Charlie Manson and Homer Simpson. Hey! Maybe I’m close.
