If only a Bush brother had been Governor of Louisiana, the President’s approval ratings might not have tanked quite so much after Hurricane Katrina. Luckily for his numbers, Wilma managed to navigate her way to sunny Florida where Jeb Bush has decided to dent the First Amendment, protect his big brother, and slight Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin at the same time:
“I’m going to have a non-criticize zone established as we focus on recovery,” said Bush. “If anybody wants to blame anybody, let them blame me. Don’t blame FEMA – this is our responsibility and we’re doing a good job.”
Sounds a lot like the spin from Katrina: There will be time for criticism later, FEMA’s doing a heckuva job, and Blanco and Nagin should have been able to deal with it all by themselves. But what Republican politician could pass up the opportunity to play “blame the victim?” Said Governor Bush: “It isn’t that hard to get 72 hours’ worth of food and water.” Nice.
It’s really too bad that Neil Bush is so into Thai hookers, he could have been such a help.
