Breaking News: Prosecutor Incorruptible

Obviously the die is cast on the investigation at this point, but forgive my paranoia when three nearly identical stories pop up in rapid succession just before the finale stressing how beyond corruption and politics Patrick Fitzgerald is:

Reuters:

New York Times:

Washington Post:

Shouldn’t the default position of federal prosecutors be incorruptible, apolitical and non-partisan? Who is pushing this series of stories? Are stories that amount to “Fitzgerald believes he should do his job” really news? Or are they being placed to soften the blow of few or no major indictments?

UPDATE: One more from the San Francisco Chronicle:

It could have the opposite impact. If he delivers indictments, the GOP will attempt to attack him as partisan (like DeLay has Ronnie Earle), but if he’s already framed as “incorruptible” and “nonpartisan,” then those attacks won’t stick.
