Quaint
by matt at 7:30 am on August 1st, 2005 in Bush Man Date, Media, PlamegateIt never ceases to amaze me how naïve otherwise experienced people can be when the subject is the limits that constrain the Bush administration. As Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation into the Plame leak case, it seems (to some people) more and more likely to produce indictments of senior administration officials. But his term as U.S. Attorney expires this fall, and the Republican Senator who helped seat him four years ago is concerned that Fitzgerald’s aggressive style may cause him to be removed. Here’s Chicago Sun-Times Washington bureau chief Lynn Sweet’s take
Feisty U.S. attorney’s job safe
For legal and political reasons, however, it seems it is Patrick Fitzgerald’s decision to stay or go. Legally, if President Bush does nothing, he stays on the job even though his term is over. Politically, Bush would face a storm of protest if he fired a man who is investigating his own administration.
Because storms of protest have proven effective deterrents to Bush’s actions how many times in the last four-plus years?
That’s what I thought.
