“After All I’ve Done For You”

It’s hard to imagine any Democrat pulling for former Florida secretary of state and current U.S. Representative Katherine Harris, but when she causes strife in the Republican party in her quest to get the nomination for Florida’s Senate race, I think we can all agree to root for her before we root against her:

“It’s unimaginable that the White House folks and the National Republican Senatorial Committee would be so disloyal to Katherine Harris, especially after all she has done for the Bush family and the Republican Party,” a Florida political operative who supports Harris said. “It’s unconscionable and a stab in the back.”

Yeah, unimaginable that Republicans wouldn’t want Harris to run and provide Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson unlimited contributions for running against one his party’s most hated opponents. Especially when even Republican-commissioned polls show Nelson with a safe lead in a state trending Republican.

But we need a full explanation of the “all she has done for the Bush family” comment. Other than passing on the 2004 Senate race she would have been crushed in by Bush pal Mel Martinez, what has she done?

They must mean honorably following Florida state law without regard to politics in the discharge of her official duties during the 2000 election. That’s gotta be it.
