Fill My Pills

A few months ago, we wrote about the growing phenomenon of pharmacists refusing to fill birth control and emergency contraception pill prescriptions, bolstered by a Michigan bill allowing such action on “moral, ethical or religious grounds.” If you don’t like greed, don’t become a stockbroker. If you have a fear of flying, that flight attendant job probably isn’t for you. If you object to filling prescriptions, don’t fucking go to pharmacy school.
News coverage of this outrageous thwarting of medical care apparently wasn’t enough to bring it to an end, but luckily Planned Parenthood is on the case. Their work has already convinced CVS to institute policy banning pharmacists from refusing to fill prescriptions, but several other drugstore chains have yet to take action. Please take a moment to sign Planned Parenthood’s petition and/or send an email to the stores who allow the views of individual employees to subvert decisions made by women and their doctors.
*The Left Coaster has a post about a group of pharmacists in Illinois who are suing the governor to stop a law forcing them to, you know, do their jobs…
