Purple Falafel

Nick points us to the now infamous clip of Damon “Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy” Dash and Killa Cam’ron on Bill O’ Reilly‘s Happy Fun Hour. Nick want’s to know why it’s hosted on Island/Def Jam’s site. I’ll co-sign.

If you haven’t seen it before, it’s well worth the few minutes. No homo just in case.

I count myself among those who think in generalistic and therefore uninformed terms about what the hip hop industry is, and who the folks are that work in it. Credit Damon Dash for going on Bill O’Reilly and sticking it to Da Harrassah himself. Dash was intelligent, articulate, on point, non-antagonistic, and said a great deal in a short time about the misconceptions that White America (blatantly purveyed by O’Reilly) has and the generalizations they make about who works in the hip hop industry. Good job linking to that clip.

Actually Dash and Cam’ron ended up looking like fools. They’re cover of “We care about the community” was blown the only thing they care about is green. Portraying black stereotypes and selling it to white America is big business. The record industry’s new minstrel show took an insidious twist by camouflaging the thug lifestyle as “black culture”. They rebutted the claims that they damage black children by saying its our culture, as if criminality is authentically black. Young kids in the ghetto know who Jay-Z is but how many have heard of Ella Fitzgerald, or black thinkers like Booker T. Washington or Thomas Sowell.
