So the State of the Union has now come and gone. And it pretty much went off as expected; the President spendt majority of the time talking about freedom and Social Security reform, with the usual nods toward “activist judges”, hetero-only marriage and taxes. Watching the speech on tv went something like this:
President says something about any topic he’s talked about in the last six months > Republicans yell and give standing ovations after every sentence > Cameras focus on a lone Democrat for “balance”, usually Hillary Clinton or John Kerry > Repeat until approximately an hour passes > Look up and experience the horror of Andrew Sullivan being interviewed by Wolf Blitzer.
Considering the lack of new material contained in the speech (save for the hilarious image of Laura Bush heading up an anti-gang task force), writing a point-by-point rebuttal of the SOTU isn’t a task that either of us at 1115 are jumping to do. Especially since the people over at the Center for American Progress already put together a definitive response to the President’s speech. For the facts behind the President’s SOTU claims, it’s an excellent resource.

Already siding with the Bloods.
