Or at least get him to stop talking in public.
It’s unclear if Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is senile or suffering from a case of loose lips:
…in his remarks, Rumsfeld referred to the “the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania.”
It’s long been suspected that the U.S. Air Force shot down Flight 93 to protect targets in Washington DC. No one can reasonably argue that shooting down that plane to eliminate the possibility of an attack on the White House or the Capitol building was a bad decision. But questions remain about what happened in the White House situation room that fateful morning, including why Lynne Cheney was there barking orders and whether it was Dick Cheney who actually gave the shoot-down order.
And what is this:
A Pentagon spokesman insists Rumsfeld has not changed his opinion that the plane crashed as the result of an onboard struggle between passengers and terrorists.
Why would the Secretary of Defense need to have an opinion on what happened? Either it was shot down which he would have to know about, or it went down due to passenger actions because I’m pretty sure the hijackers didn’t mean to attack a field in the middle of nowhere.
Looks like Rummy isn’t the only one poorly choosing his words.
