$70 Billion More

We don’t blame you if you missed the latest round of tax cut insanity last week. The media must have tax cut fatigue because the story passed without much notice. The $140 Billion corporate tax giveaway and porkfest didn’t fit the President’s campaign narrative of…um…well, who knows.

No doubt the story will be further buried (although it should be revived) by the latest news that the administration wants more money for their misguided war:

The Bush administration intends to seek about $70 billion in emergency funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan early next year, pushing total war costs close to $225 billion since the invasion of Iraq early last year, Pentagon and congressional officials said yesterday.

It occurs to me that Dick Cheney made a big deal in his debate with John Edwards about the war not costing $200 Billion. The latest request would bring the total to $225 Billion. Even Cheney can’t spin $225 Billion into less than $200 Billion. Or can he?
