Jon Stewart vs. The World

stewart_crossfire.jpg

In case you missed it, Jon Stewart was a guest on CNN‘s political shoutfest Crossfire last Friday. What looked set to be just another opportunity for Stewart to show off his ability to turn our frustration and anger into punch-lines quickly turned into something else entirely. Stewart managed to keep everyone laughing while tearing into co-host, bow-tie enthusiast, and Republican shill Tucker Carlson. The only thing that could have made this show better would have been Robert Novak bearing the brunt of Stewart’s attacks rather than Carlson. It’s a shame that Novak is laid up with what I hope is an excruciatingly painful broken hip.

it was an incredible display of honesty on Stewart’s behalf, and it was painful to watch Carlson try to avoid the verbal smackdown. You could practicaly see the plastic smile crack.

  2. Lucas Ajemian says:

Thank God for John Stewart’s effort and outrage. He seemed exhausted like the rest of us. The pundits have taken over and cheapened discourse in these last few elections. The moral entitlement perpetrated by each side IS hurting and deceiving America. As someone who works in television, I am embarrassed by the apparent fate of the greatest invention of mass communication. Everyday I see flippant, desperate ‘talking points’ overshadow and bury real issues, important questions, and much needed information. The people of this society DO need a media to be willing rise above the muck. Unfortunately, we know the interests of those who own the media; fitfully stifling status-quo and the voice of a people morbidly consigned to some dead letter office in the basement of the playhouse.

  3. Sarabeth Guthberg says:

Just the other day I read a story somewhere (maybe right here on 1115.org?) where Mr. Carlson was referred to as Fucker Carlson.

That may have been true in the past, but it’s way out-of-date. After the Jon Stewart interview, in my mind he will forever now be Fucked Carlson. Royally so.

Hey, Carlson, there’s actually a good reason why Jon has all those Emmys and you have no hope of ever getting one. Or maybe 80 reasons. That seems to be about the difference in your IQs, at least judging from the interview.

I stand corrected. Fucked Carlson it is.
