Falling Up

Peter Principle – “…employees within a hierarchical organization advance to their highest level of competence, are then promoted to a level where they are incompetent, and then stay in that position.”

I hate myself for actually linking to anything written by Robert Novak. Rest assured it is not for the writing, but for the leak that he benefitted from this time.

In his column last week, Novakula suggests some rumors for a second term Bush cabinet:

Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state, Paul Wolfowitz as defense secretary and Stephen Hadley as national security adviser.

Promotions for all. All we need now is Kenneth Lay as Treasury Secretary and we’ll be set.

I’m not going to waste time today reiterating all the reasons that this would be disastrous for the administration, and more importantly, the country. We’ve spent the last year explaining why these people and others are unfit for leadership. Martin Sieff has a smart piece in Salon arguing that this group is 0-for-21 when it counts. It’s well worth a read.

Or, to paraphrase Jon Voight in Varsity Blues: “These are the damn dumbest smart people I ever saw.”
