Following up on one of our earlier entries, it appears that it will be considerably harder for Diebold’s CEO to deliver Ohio for the President.

“As I made clear last year, I will not place these voting devices before Ohio’s voters until identified risks are corrected,” [Ohio Secretary of State J. Kenneth] Blackwell said. “Diebold Election Systems has successfully addressed many, but not all, of the problems that were identified in our first security review. The lack of comprehensive resolution prevents me from giving county boards of elections a green light for this November.

Blackwell deserves praise for this decision, and other Secretaries of State should think about following his lead. Modern elections face enough challenges without adding another layer of potential problems. Until electronic voting can provide an audit trail, it should be kept on the shelf.
