Doing Things Early is the New Black

This isn’t one of those “here’s what I did yesterday” type blogs, but yesterday was an important day, so I have no problem breaking with tradition.

In a show of solidarity with my downtrodden brethren in Iraq, and a tip of the hat to the administration that has provided me with so many good times, I decided to do everything early for a full 24 hours.

2:00 AM: Woke up. Man, it’s dark. Went around the corner for some breakfast. IHOP was open but empty. First indication that not everyone was celebrating as I was. MMM, stuffed freedom toast.

3:00 AM: Did some laundry. Roommate not happy. He was all “don’t you know what fucking time it is?” Amateur. Went into the den and listened to my Franz Ferdinand CD. Roommate not happy with that either. Descartes had it wrong: I blog, therefore I listen to Franz Ferdinand.

3:45 AM: Decided to go to my 12-step meeting in the morning instead of after work. Man, they didn’t like it when I poured out some of my 40oz (O.J.) for Ashley Mary-Kate. But they have issues anyway.

5:00 AM: Two hours early for work. Man, I got sooo much blogging done. That and surfing for gossip and pictures of underage starlets. But then my boss came in and said something about not counting the two hours I already “worked,” and to get off of the internet. Man I hate my job.

9:00 AM: Went to the conference room for a noon meeting. Worst meeting ever.

10:00 AM: Dinner time. McDonald’s is still serving breakfast. Damn. Had a McGriddle and a Sprite Re-Mix.

12:00 PM: Started on my end-of-day reports. Looks like I got nothing done today. Get called to the conference room for the noon meeting. They bitched at me for being late even though I was three hours early. I thought all of this being early business was supposed to get me out of trouble, not into more trouble.

2:00 PM: Leave work. I put in my nine hours. I answer to no one.

3:00 PM: Arrived at home. Watched promo reels of the next season of The O.C. and booked a flight to New York for next year’s blogging event at the Apple Store.

4:30 PM: Illegally download rare Yeah Yeah Yeahs demos. That Karen O sure is a firecracker.

6:30 PM: Went to Giants game. Actually got tickets. I guess being early isn’t all bad. I even managed not to get booed at the stadium.

9:00: Arrived at home.

9:10: Date seemed less than pleased that the evening ended…ummm…prematurely. Maybe tomorrow I’ll do everything late.

Being on time is the new French.

Tom — he has to do these kinds of things; it’s part of the blogging union bylaws. Blame the system!
