CNN: “Sucking a Little Bit Less Than Our Competition”

We really must live in an age of diminished expectations. How else can you explain the new CNN promo spots, where the network confidently proclaims that it is (once again) the most trusted name in cable news?
Is it true? Well…technically. But only in the face of some pretty awful competition. In a new survey by the Pew Research Center, a whopping 32% of respondents thought that CNN is a credible news source—and this was the “winner”. What about the “fair and balanced” network? 25% of those surveyed think it is credible. And that’s still good enough for second place; MSNBC brings up the rear with 22%.
Call me crazy, but I think it would be a good idea for CNN to hold off on the confetti and ice cream. When a full two thirds of people think that a network is not accurate or trustworthy, there’s a problem. A big problem.
Diminished expectations, indeed.
