He Obviously Got the Talking Points

Iraq Survey Group weapons hunt leader Charles Duelfer responding to a question about whether he was on a wild goose chase in an interview with CNN:
“A wild goose chase is when you’re looking for something that may not exist,” he said. “We’re looking for something that does exist, and that is the truth. You know I wasn’t sent here to find weapons of mass destruction. I was sent out here to find the truth about Iraqi weapons of mass destruction programs.”
Let’s get this straight: We’re not looking for something that may not be there, we’re not looking for the weapons we went to war over, we’re looking for The Truth. Considering the distant relationship the administration has with the truth, it’s unlikely they could find it with a map.
It seems we have sunken to government by bait-and-switch. Either that or this guy is unclear on exactly what he’s supposed to be doing in Iraq. Vegas has this one listed as a pick’em.
It’s less than comforting to know that the best and brightest minds in our government are the speechwriters who are busy writing elegant yet incredibly misleading sound bites rather than the policy-makers in charge.

I thought a wild goose chase was when you were looking for something so difficult to catch that it was not worth pursuing.
