Does He Read the Fucking Newspapers or Not?

From the Washington Post:
On “The Tonight Show” last night, host Jay Leno bantered with the first lady about her relationship with George, her workout routine and the persistent impression that the president doesn’t read newspapers.
Laura Bush: “He really does read the newspaper, just not the reporters that follow him.”
Jay Leno: “Now why is that?” Leno asked.
Laura Bush: “Because he says he doesn’t want to be mad at them the next day. Also, because he was there at the event, so he doesn’t need to really read their coverage of it.”
I was horrified enough when the President first admitted (on Fox News, obvs) that he avoided newspapers and got all of his news from Chief of Staff Andrew Card and National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice. The implications of a President so insulated from public opinion (remember the buses shielding dear leader’s fragile sensibilities from protesters) are truly disturbing.
With Laura Bush’s revelation that he does actually read the papers comes further proof that this administration will lie about anything even when there is no reason to lie.
The proper word for this is pathological.

Bill Maher was hammering him on Real Time every week for this - maybe his handlers decided that even for someone as anti-intellectual as Bush, this just made him look stupid, not populist.
