So Far Ahead of the Curve
by matt at 6:15 am on April 29th, 2004 in DemocratsAs if he had read yesterday’s entry about the Chickenhawks, New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg (a veteran of WWII) took to the Senate floor with this:

From CNN:
Lautenberg pointed to a poster with a drawing of a chicken in a military uniform defining a chickenhawk as “a person enthusiastic about war, provided someone else fights it.”
I’m not saying that this should be the main theme of the election, but I wouldn’t mind seeing stickers like that all over the place. And a Flash movie. Internerds love them some flash movies.

As always, gay culture seeps unknowingly into the mainstream, and totally out of context, which makes it even better. Of course, you all know that chickenhawk is gay slang for men who like young boys.

Gay people: Even further ahead of the curve than we are.
I think either definition would work with some of these guys.

I don’t think anyone “owns” the word chickenhawk, nor does anyone think that Lautenberg was claiming he invented it. He was making a point that bears making: the people who are assailing John Kerry are a bunch of people who have little standing to do so.
