Not Surprising, but Still Nauseating

CHENEY’S CHENEY: A lot of attention has been focused on Richard Clarke’s story about Bush pulling him aside on the day after 9/11 and hectoring him about tying the attacks to Iraq. But an even more frightening anecdote from Clarke’s book is being overlooked. On 9/11 itself, as Bush scrambled about the country (at Clarke’s urging), one of the few decision-makers back in the Situation Room under the evacuated White House was Cheney–Lynne Cheney. “Mrs. Cheney was more than just a family member,” Clarke writes, “she was a right-wing ideologue and she was offering her advice and opinions in the bunker.” If, as Dick Cheney alleges, Bush’s terrorism czar was “out of the loop,” it’s good to know that at least Lynne Cheney was in the loop.

In gathering background for this entry, I discovered that to even be in the White House Situation Room, you need this country’s highest security clearance, several steps above “Top Secret”. Why on earth would the wife of the Vice President have such clearance?

If Lynne Cheney was in the Situation Room why was the White House Situation Room Director travelling with the President in Florida?

Umm, the scariest part about that passage is the fact that anyone believes that Richard Clarke, who was a DEMOTED national security staffer for Bush, was actually the man responsible for the President not going back To Washington.

Maybe he also helped Al Gore invent the Internet.

Obviously it’s going to be one of those days.

The fact that his position (not him personally, because then someone would had to have taken his place, no?) was shifted from cabinet level to staff level is proof that this administration didn’t take the threat seriously.

Your name is ironic as you seem to believe the smear tactics this administration has used for years now. O’neill, DiIulio, Clarke, and on and on. This administration hasn’t made one single mistake in 3 1/2 years in office, and anyone who says they have is either lying, incompetent, or both.

Al Gore isn’t running this time, the current party line is “John Kerry had Botox and looks French”
