I’m just getting up to speed on Richard Clarke, so I’ll comment on him and his book Against All Enemies after I actually read it. I will say that his claims that the administration wanted to invade Iraq even before Afghanistan match exactly with what Bob Woodward reported in his book Bush at War. Woodward’s book came out in November 2002, and featured unprecedented access and a fawning tone. I’m not sure that the press will give these stories any more play this time around, but Clarke seems to have much more inside information, and can only be a better writer than Woodward at this point.
