Why Use One Word When Four Will Do The Trick?
by Jason at 11:23 am on January 30th, 2004 in PoliticsPerhaps inspired by the President’s use of “weapons of mass destruction-related program activities” in the State of the Union, the Georgia state school superintendent has proposed replacing the word “evolution” with “biological changes over time”.
No, really. We aren’t making this up.
Note that the proposal only replaces the word “evolution”; it doesn’t stop teachers from teaching the underlying concepts of it. It’s yet another bone tossed to appease the religious right, who aren’t going to be satisfied by these word games anyway.

Replacing a functional four-syllable word with ten syllables spanning four words is just plain silly.
Oh, and clinging to the traditional concept of creation is pretty silly, too.
It’s evolution, baby.
Or didn’t you know the earth is a tad older than 5,000 years old?
