The Downside to Voter Registration
by matt at 7:21 am on January 21st, 2004 in General
Now that Scott Peterson’s murder trial has been moved from Modesto to Redwood City in San Mateo County, Jason and I are now in the jury pool. Given that jury lists are generated from voter rolls, is it way too late to take back all the things we said about how important it is to register to vote?
We’re starting to think of ways to get disqualified from serving without getting cited for contempt of court. “Our blog wouldn’t get updated, your honor” doesn’t seem like it would cut it.
Better ideas are welcomed.

Another way to get disqualified is by saying: “How am I supposed to maintain my steady diet of crack and whore-fucking, your honor?”

Common misconception that juries are picked from only from registered voter and a myth that encourages people not to register. In every state I know of jury duty comes primarily through state id’s, i.e. driver’s licenses because so few people register to vote, but most have state id or a dl. Check this out for further proof, http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/jury/faq/faq05.htm
California even uses utility bills and phone books to summon people, you can run but you can’t hide. I suggest reading the Globe or a copy of Helterskelter in the court room and asking repeatedly if California has the death penalty, cause it’d be a whole lot cooler if you did.

Is that a “Dazed and Confused” reset?
Anyway, it looks like jason and I are in the clear, but munee cashilini has been at the redwoord city court for a while now. don’t know whether it’s because he had jury duty or more paternity problems.
