Too Many MCs, Not Enough Mics
by matt at 6:02 am on December 2nd, 2003 in GeneralPittsburgh is a funny place. Especially when you don’t live there.
Quote of the week:

Terrelle: “I only smoke pot now. Except when there’s some coke around. But what really gets me is tweak, ’cause a night turns into a weekend and a weekend turns into a week.”
Matt: “Well, then it’s a good thing you only smoke pot…”
Quote of the week Runner-Up:

Bob The Body
Bob:”The worst accent ever is the gay Pittsburgh accent”
Quote of the week Third Place:

Cohen Sr.
Rooster Fleming:”I drank half a case of Thunderbird, and I have to go drink the other half”
Cohen Sr.:”How do you know which half?
Besides these gems, I ran into about 90% of the people who could derail my 2016 presidential bid. Hopefully by then there will be some kind of memory eraser.
I was foiled in my attempt to get some pierogis. Seems the Bloomfield Bridge Tavern is too good to open for lunch anymore.

Heart attack on a plate
Paying cover charges is way overrated. But all of the spots are either new or have changed hands. And I didn’t really feel like running my “DON’T YOU KNOW WHO I AM?” routine.
Kelly’s Bar used to be a down and out bar for 75 year old dudes to get wasted. I used to get sixers of Rolling Rock in cans. Now it is the hot spot. Funny what a few cans of paint can do. But with old Clash, old U2 and older Patsy Cline for Alexis, it’s OK with me.

Alexis and Bob The Body at Kelly’s Bar
I actually went to 80’s night at the Upstage Lounge. I first went to that spot on my 18th birthday, and I was shocked to discover that the same crowd still goes there, 13 years later. While there, I ran into Alexis who had her Electroclashing gear on even though there was no electroclashing going on. Pity pity.

My Mom called my sister a “spoiled brat”. Everyone knows that I’m the spoiled brat in the family.

Da Brat
Went to see Bugz in the Attic at 1814. Or 18 snorteen if you like. Fuck some broken beat nonsense. For real.

a Bug in an attic
Only got into one political argument with Cohen Sr. Not bad for 5 days. I am the son of a Right Wing Populist. Is there some kind of 12 step program for that?
The flight back was interesting. Got bumped from my flight, but they gave me a free ticket (where should I go?), and a first class upgrade. On the flight, the girl next to me grabbed my iPod and insisted on listening to it because she “never heard of any of these dudes”. Nice. There goes hours of careful iPod stocking down the drain. She did let me listen to her iPod, but it was full of really bad music. And let me say for the record, Alicia Keys you need to rethink your “music”. Guru said “It’s Mostly Tha Voice”, but he has DJ Premier’s beats to back him up. Keys has nothing. And let me tell you ma, your new single blows. If I wanted accapella whining, I’d kill myself. And to the iPod switcher, I’m not calling. Your musical taste disqualified you.
Good to see everyone in the 412, good to be home in the 650.

i realize there is now a debate on who the spoiled brat in the family is, but come on, there are no pictures of me - that’s not right.

Matt - you are proof positive that someone’s online persona can be the same as IRL. It’s amazing. Very entertaining to read about you and your life now. I read it and was like, I could be a lurker and just never say anything…but eh…i’m too old for that crap. :D peace- rashida

iPod chick hadn’t really heard of any of it except for the really comersh singles I have on there (Beyonce, Kelis, Missy) and a couple of the albums (Police, The Cult, Deee-Lite). She said she knew Thievery Corp, but I call bullshit.

That should really prove that she knows nothing and is not worthy. In her defense, she was nodding her head quite a bit.

Yeah I haven’t heard of about half those artists but I know a lot and I am worthy of everything. So there Mr. Son of a Right Wing Populist. Your opinions are futile.

wow, that is one insanicus playlist. i’ve heard of exactly seven of those artists. apparently i’ve got even less buzz than i thought.
btw, did you hit Primanti’s when you were in the 412? i used to see a girl that lived in Pittsburgh, Moon Township to be exact. i found Pitt to be a solid working class city with some really good peeps … kinda like The D, only with hills. and i heart Primanti’s. any place that serves french fries IN FREAKIN’ SUB SANDWICHES is good by me. obvs.

No Primanti’s. I don’t eat meat, so I’d be left with a french fry and cole slaw sandwich. When I’m in PGH, it’s mom’s cooking all the way.
Moon Twp: So close to the best road sign evs:
Airport Beaver 1 mile.
PGH vs Tha D. More same than same as tomorrows entry will show.
You’d have more time for music with Buzz if you’d step away from the brit brit.com for a min…

ok, in my own defense, i’m 28 and i would appreciate a photo retrospective.
ALSO, primanti’s BITES. you have to be SO DRUNK to like that shit that is doesn’t suprise me Uncle Grambo’s a fan.
AND, the best quote of the ENTIRE WEEKEND had to be the one that I and I alone bear witness to. In the car Sunday night my father (the right wing populist) said: I ENJOYED MY CONVERSATON WITH DEAN. and the best thing was, I called him out on it. my reply was: YEARS OF POLICY REVERSED! he then told me i mis-heard him, but I got damn good hearing. way to go dizz, Neil likes you!

ha, i come in second in the playlist olympics, with a superhardcore “knowledge city” score of 14!
altho i only like maybe old photek, sw, and most definitely r+s.
pittsburgh, after all, is the dub capital of america. (i just appointed it that in response to others’ rechristening it knowledge city without a mandate. then again who needs a mandate for anything anymore, including listening to music)

Knowledge City. That makes me wretch.
Jean-Paul wins the music knowledge award, nice one.
I should have specified old Photek, but maybe that should go without saying.
Dub City. I like the sound of that.
But as a real Pittsburgher, it will always be Steel City or at worst, Iron City.

ahh, the one day I where that shirt to a party (thinking no consenting adults will be attending, given the fact that it was, dare I say it, a rave) I got almost disowned by the Cohen family. Matt and Sue where screening me outside the Cohen residence when I rolled up.
Since Sir Niel enjoyed our rap together, I feel like a 3rd child to the family.
I just wanna know where to get that cool plaid wallpaper!

Maybe I’ll have it bronzed when I retire it.

how about the Andy Warhol museum? certainly that still has buzz! and you’re right, the 412 is totally the 313 minus the techno. but your h-tizz does rock Michael Chabon buzz … “Wonder Boys” forevs!
