Anatomy of a Remix

From time to time, something will happen that even I can’t explain.

One example of this is the track “Party and Bullshit” by Rah Digga and its subsequent remix featuring Missy Elliott and Eve. The beat by Just Blaze is no doubt the hottness. On the original, Rah Digga displays lyrical skills that I have heard surpassed on the playground by 10 year old girls jumping rope. Her writing is so weak and flow so poor that it makes the beat sound bad. I had a hard time understanding how this record even came out, but then I remembered that Digga is on Flipmode, and Busta has had his own lapses that lead me to believe that he can’t tell the difference between hott and nott.

One interesting part of the track is when Digga says “It’s time for the percolator”, name checking a Chicago house classic. I have no clue what that has to do with the rest of the song, but in doing some research, I did find this link which caused a fairly solid acid flashback, making it all worthwhile.

When I heard the beat come in on a mixtape, I was in the process of skipping ahead when I heard Missy start to flow. Missy and then Eve proceeded to kill shit, making the beat sound hott again.

After that, Digga comes in on some bullshit and ruins it all over again.

So my questions are these:

1. Why did Digga even get this beat?
2. Why wouldn’t Digga get someone to at least help her write some of it?
3. Why would Digga pay Missy and Eve tens of thousands of dollars to
murder her on a record with her name on it?

I haven’t heard someone get served like that on their own record since Method Man ripped Fred Durst a new one on “N2gether Now”.

So, can I get a witness?
Original or Remix?

Well I’ve listened to both and the remix is definitely better than the original. This beat is a Missy beat and not Rah Digga. I’m sure you’ve heard her other tracks and to me she’s got skills. She ventured out of her league with this one. Listen to Harriet Tubman to hear some good Rah Digga.

Only time I ever thought Digga could flow was on the Black Rob “Like Whoa” remix. That shit was like whoa.
